When you’re moving to a new home, expert movers strongly recommend that you make a moving inventory. Here are a few tips you can follow when creating your moving inventory.

Create Copies of Important Documents

If you don’t have copies of essential documents such as birth and marriage certificates, wills, insurance policies or deeds, create them now. When you’re moving, keep the originals with you as you travel while the copies can move with the rest of your household items.

Create a Record of Your Belongings

You can easily do this with your phone’s camera. You can either create an audio log or add notes to the pictures that include information about the item, such as when you purchased it and how much it’s worth. Your moving company can give you advice about the type of information to include for each item.

Copy the List

Once you’re done with your documentation, you can now create a copy of your item list. Give the copies to a friend or relative and hold onto the original yourself.
